New agreement with Jewish Records Indexing – Poland

On 15 February 2013 the General Director of the State Archives, professor Władysław Stępniak, signed a new agreement for co-operation by and between the Polish State Archives and an international group of genealogists associated by the Jewish Records Indexing – Poland seated in Montreal. The event was preceded by signing the said document by the Head of JRI-Poland, Mr. Stanley Diamond, at the Polish Consulate in Montreal. 

The signed agreement opens another stage of co-operation between the two partners dating back to 1997. Its major purpose will be to continue works on indexing Jewish birth certificate registries based on copies of digital indexes obtained from state archives. The results of joint endeavors will be made available to the public free of charge and published on the Internet in the form of a data base that will help quickly and easily find information in which both historians and specialists in other scientific disciplines as well as genealogical researchers are interested in. 
Based on experiences from previous years, the development of a generally accessible information tool meets the expectations of numerous users interested in the resources of Polish archives. Not only will the project facilitate scientific research devoted to centuries-old Polish and Jewish past but it will also help many people of Jewish nationality originating from Poland find and become acquainted with their family roots.
