Isabella Orefice took a degree in Italian Literature and Philosophy in 1975 and then a diploma in Archival Science from the State Archives of Naples.
She worked as an Archivist at the State Archives of Naples from 1978 to 1982 and at the State Archives of Milan from 1982 to 1991.
From 1992 she works in Rome, first at the Co-ordinating Team for Computer Science of the General Directorate of Archives, and then, from 1994, at the Archival Supervision Agency for Latium.
She is in charge of safeguarding the Archives of Media and of Cinema.
She was member of the Committee for Historical, Philosophical and Philological Sciences of the International Council on Archives from 1990 to 1995.
She is the President of the Italian National Archival Association (ANAI) from 1995 until today, for three consecutive charges.
She is member of the International Team of the InterPARES 2 Project as chair of the European Group.
She is member of the Directive Committee of the Section of Professional Associations of the International Council on Archives.
She is member of the Directive Committee of the Section of Sport Archives of the International Council on Archives
She is editor in charge of the Newsletter “Il Mondo degli Archivi”.
She is vice editor of the journal “Archivi per la Storia”
As President of ANAI she has organized a lot of Conferences and Seminars from 1995 until today, including the VI European Conference on Archives, held in Florence in 2001.
