Searching guidelines
The IZA database allows for two possibilities of data search. The first one is checking whether inventories from specific archives are included in the database, also giving the possibility to view them. In order to do so, one should select the archives of interest from the list of archives, and - when the successful result of the search is displayed - view the inventory of the selected fond.
The other data search possibility refers to the search for the specific information in the holdings of one archive or all archives. Searching for details in only one archive can be done by using the first kind of research - after displaying the list of all inventories in the choosen archive, the enquiry can be written.
Fields Serie and Subserie allow to enter a word or a phrase, which is contained in the names of series and subseries in one selected archive or in all archives.
Field Name of unit or file is designated to enter the full title of a uit searched for or any string of characters from the title, field Index terms: personal names, places, subjects is designated to enter a word or a term searched for - geographical name, name or subject entry.
Note: Those having no possibility to use Polish fonts (diacritical marks) may use Latin alphabet, i.e. write "urzad" instead of "urząd" or "Lodz" instead of "Łódź". However, please do not combine these two forms of writing; for example, write "Raciąż" or "Raciaz" but not "Raciąz", "spółdzielnia" or "spoldzielnia", not "spóldzielnia".
While viewing the inventory of a fond or the description of several units, information about the place of preservation of archive materials found may be received by clicking the fond number being the first element of the archival unit description.
